This winter, stay in a fairytale cottage on your way to Fernie BC. Take your family for a rejuvenating retreat, where you can unwind, explore scenic trails, and conquer the slopes.
Fernie, the legendary ski town, star of numerous ski movies, is nestled in the heart of the Powder Highway in British Columbia. If this is your first trip, you’re in for a treat, it’s just like you imagined, lots of super cool red brick buildings with funky stores full of inspirational décor items to the latest and greatest gear, to perfect restaurants and friendly local bars and pubs. The Fernie vibe is unique, and you’ll soon feel right at home.
Fernie’s downtown is recognizable from its many red brick buildings that were constructed after the Great Fire of 1908. Fernie city council decreed that any structure within ten blocks be built of fireproof materials when rebuilding from the massive blaze. And thus, downtown Fernie was reborn from the ashes. Many of the historic buildings still stand and showcase unique architecture from the early 1900s. Numerous buildings have since been restored and now house a wonderful combination of shops, restaurants, and attractions for you to explore.
The activity options are endless in Fernie, ranging from CAT or heli-skiing to fly fishing to gourmet dining. The small-town charm that Fernie has combined with its resident’s adventurous, community-minded spirit makes it an excellent destination to discover in the Canadian Rockies. Surrounded by picturesque mountains, Fernie offers many accommodation options, including chalets, lodges, bed and breakfasts, hotels, cabins, and even a few yurts.
Fernie is home to a diverse local arts and culture scene. If you look up while wandering downtown Fernie’s 2nd Avenue, you will see banners on the light posts. Annually since 2005, Fernie has selected 40 works of art to turn into banners to provide a welcoming and colourful display
