Historic Downtown

Fernie’s downtown is recognizable from its many red brick buildings that were constructed after the Great Fire of 1908. Fernie city council decreed that any structure within ten blocks be built of fireproof materials when rebuilding from the massive blaze. And thus, downtown Fernie was reborn from the ashes. Many of the historic buildings still stand and showcase unique architecture from the early 1900s. Numerous buildings have since been restored and now house a wonderful combination of shops, restaurants, and attractions for you to explore.
