The small coastal village at the western edge of Vancouver Island is surrounded by the vast, breathtaking expanse of the UNESCO Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Region—a area treasured for its great biodiversity and environmental culture. Tofino is situated beside the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve and its gorgeous beaches sit next to an ancient coastal rainforest. This wild and remote area is a picture-perfect setting for a relaxing or adventurous discovery.
Tofino isn’t short on things to do. This sleepy seaside town has earned a solid reputation as an ideal outdoor destination and visitors can surf, hike, bike, explore nature, bird watch, whale watch, fish, kayak, or take a dip in hot springs, just to name a few. But you don’t have to be an outdoorsperson to love Tofino. Foodies can come and discover the best gastronomic experiences that Tofino has to offer. There is deliciousness everywhere!
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the town’s beautiful surroundings influence and inspire artists to create some stunning work. You’ll find extraordinary works by regional artists at local markets, art festivals and galleries throughout the village. The Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation of the Nuu-chah-nulth peoples have called the area home for over five thousand years and continue to share their passion for their history with storytelling, museums, art galleries, canoe tours and more.
Tofino’s Long beach is 16 kms in length and is known for its surfing and enormous marine life presence. After you’ve crossed the fine and soft sand, take a dip into the ocean. The water temperature ranges between 7 to 15 degrees Celsius throughout the year.
Let’s make a west coast trip that’s uniquely yours! You decide how long, which activities, number of inclusions, everything. Start planning now and make your dream trip a reality.
In spring, around 20,000 Gray whales swim past Tofino’s shores on their annual migration from birthing waters by the Baja Peninsula north to the Bering Strait by Alaska. Some stay in these waters for the summer, giving ample opportunities for viewing until October. Gear up in warm clothes and board a whale watching trip to spend around 2.5 to 3 hours on the open water in search of these massive mammals.
