Good morning! Have an energy packed breakfast, stretch and pack a bag full of layers to help you dress warm for today. Mid morning, you will be picked up at your hotel and brought to one of Jasper’s most popular and extraordinary winter adventures. Your tour guide will lead you on a walk to the bottom of Maligne Canyon where you can observe amazing waterfalls, ice caves and ice formations from atop the frozen river. Your 3-3.5 hour adventure will showcase unique frozen features and you’ll learn about Jasper’s Maligne Valley, Karst topography, and the mystery of the disappearing Medicine Lake.

In the afternoon, you’ll take a short 1.5 km guided walking tour, where you’ll be visiting four local restaurants and tasting four handpicked dishes. These items will be paired with a delicious alcoholic beverage and local tales from the Jasper National Park. Vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free and most allergies can be accommodated.

  • Day 3: Dog sledding and indigenous stories

Rise and shine! Gear up and venture deeper into the Canadian Rockies for a dog sled adventure. This 3-hour hands-on journey takes you through snow covered landscapes along small, frozen rivers. As you drive your dog sled, you’ll breathe in the fresh mountain air, while watching your team of huskies play. Warm up with a hearty trail-side lunch, hot apple cider, and homemade treats by an open campfire. Learn about the area’s history and the sport of dog sledding while bonding with your new furry friends. Make sure you have the gear that will protect you while you’re out in the elements. We highly suggest you bring at least two pairs of gloves if your first pair get wet.

Extend your dog sledding experience and travel farther and longer into the Rockies. Climbing 1000 vertical feet along a historic trap line, you’ll see how trappers explored the wilderness and enjoy an meal in a cozy cabin by the river.
  • Day 4: Rise Up!

Wake up, enjoy a hot breakfast, pack your bags, and check out of your hotel. On your last day, you will drive east on highway 16 and exit the national park to find your heli tour outfitter. You will meet your pilot, capture photos with the helicopter and then receive a safety briefing to familiarize yourself with the chopper and its features. When it’s time, you will step into the machine, strap in and lift off into the mountains for a 45 minute flight! You’ll float into the Athabasca Valley, fly over the peaks of the Ashlar Ridge, Roche Perdix, and get an up-close view of Roche Miette. Your views of the expansive rocky terrain and the valley below are breathtaking and worthy to explore. As the helicopter lands on Folding Mountain, you will get out and spend the next 30 minutes around the remote area, view blankets of snow covering the rocks, and take pictures of the impressive sights. It’s time to load up again and descend back into the valley towards the landing pad. Here, you can take a few more images or before you depart, take a tour of the hangar. This opportunity is surely the ideal way to top off your upscale Jasper experience.
You are more inclined to see wildlife ON the road in the winter months. Animals like moose, elk and sheep will wander up onto the road to lick up the salt that is used to melt icy patches on the roadways. This creates an extra hazard for motorists, so use caution around blind corners and watch your speed.

    (additional charge)

If this experience has you wanting more, then consider adding another night in Jasper or continue on to Banff to extend your stay. These National Parks are packed full of activities and unforgettable adventures that are sure to last a lifetime.
