Suggested Itinerary

  • Day 1: Travel To Jasper

From Edmonton, travel west until you are in the middle of the towering Rocky Mountains. Here you will find the town of Jasper, a small, bustling community in the National Park. After you check into the Lobstick Lodge, make your way up to Pyramid Lake to explore the tranquil surroundings or take a trip to the Sunwapta Falls to view the impressive landscape. That evening, park your car at the hotel and wander around town in search for a meal that will fuel your tank for the following days activities.
Looking for a taste of the Mediterranean? Olive Bistro features classic Canadian dishes with flavours from France, Greece, Spain, and Italy. All dishes are made fresh, with seasonal and local ingredients from sustainable farms. Try the Bison Burger with maple bacon!

    (additional charge)

Upgrade your accommodations to a Deluxe room to enjoy a larger space with sitting area, or a Kitchenette to receive a couch, dining room table, and a full kitchen, with utensils.
  • Day 2: Cold as Ice

Good morning! Grab an energy packed breakfast, stretch, and pack a bag full of layers (and an extra pair of gloves) to help you stay warm today. You’ll make your way over to the meeting point where you will be transferred to one of Jasper’s top ice climbing sites. No matter if you have climbed before, your ACMG certified guide will introduce you to your equipment (boots, crampons, harness, axes, and helmet) and teach you how to use it safely, including climbing techniques. Your 6-hour adventure will showcase frozen water features and will allow you to receive views that are inaccessible to most park visitors.

Don’t forget to bring a lunch, snacks, and a hot beverage!
Both gloves and mittens are great for outdoor activities and should be fully waterproof to keep your hands warm and dry. Gloves have the most dexterity whereas mittens are often warmer overall. Make sure you have the gear that will protect you while you’re out in the elements. We highly suggest you bring at least two pairs of gloves if your first pair get wet.

    (additional charge)

Participate in an evening of cosmic discovery with Jasper Planetarium. Take a virtual guided tour in their domed theatre with an astronomy guide to explore local First Nations constellations, view recent Northern Lights displays in Jasper, watch the Milky Way soar overhead and take journey into space. Include a Telescope Experience where you can view the stars or a filtered solar viewing, planets, and more with the most powerful telescopes in the Rockies.
  • Day 3: Ride Marmot Basin

Ready to ski Jasper? Gear up, pack the vehicle with the items you need for the day and drive 20km south of the Jasper to Marmot Basin. The area has 91 named runs on five mountain faces and offers 3,000 vertical feet of drop and 1,720 acres of accessible terrain. This winter playground has 7 lifts and a wide variety of groomed runs, trees, moguls, alpine bowls, chutes and terrain parks for riders of all ages and skill levels. Best of all, Marmot Basin is also one of the least crowded ski areas of its kind in North America!
After a long day on the slopes, visit Evil Dave’s Grill. It’s a funky, upbeat, family-owned restaurant with a globally inspired menu. They make “wicked food” with fresh ingredients and creative flare! Try their El Diablo, Wicked Burger, Typhoon Noodles, or Nefarious Chicken. And don’t forget to save room for a dessert!

    (additional charge)

Include rentals or lessons with your package. The Rental & Repair shop offers standard and high performance rentals of skis, snowboards, boots and poles. The Snow Sports School offers lessons for first time skiers and snowboarders, high performance clinics, freeride clinics, private lessons and a variety of children’s programs.
  • Day 4: High into the mountain range

Wake up, eat a hot breakfast, pack your bags, and check out of your hotel. On your last day, you will drive east on highway 16 and exit the National Park to find your Heli tour outfitter. You will meet your pilot, capture photos with the helicopter and then receive a safety briefing to familiarize yourself with the chopper and its features. When it’s time, you will step into the machine, strap in and lift off into the mountains for a 2-hour flight! You’ll float through the dramatic Boule range, and cruise over the Snake Indian River Falls, Mount Robson, Valley of Five lakes, Jasper townsite, Miette Hot Springs, Slide Mountain, and Fiddle Range. You’ll land upon a remote mountain to stretch your legs on a 1 hour guided snowshoe tour accompanied by epic views. After your trek, you’ll indulge in a catered lunch while you enjoy the surrounding scenery. When it’s time to load up again, you’ll descend back into the valley towards the landing pad. Here, you can take a few more images or before you depart, take a tour of the hangar. This opportunity is surely the ideal way to top off your Jasper experience.
You are more inclined to see wildlife ON the road in the winter months. Animals like moose, elk and sheep will wander up onto the road to lick up the salt that is used to melt icy patches on the roadways. This creates an extra hazard for motorists, so use caution around blind corners and watch your speed.

    (additional charge)

If this experience has you wanting more, then consider adding another night in Jasper or continue to Banff to extend your stay. These National Parks are packed full of activities and unforgettable adventures that are sure to last a lifetime.
